If you're playing with mods you also have the Toro, Hollander and Ostscout to consider, but those are basically a Panther, a Gauss Rifle and a horrible mistake, so they can't compete with the Firestarter. The Jenner moves faster than the FS-9H, but loses out on lack of support weapons, so the Firestarter wins there. Slower mechs will be able to mount more equipment, so a Panther can have bigger guns than a Firestarter, but light mechs generally want to move faster. Of course, there is a little leeway to be had here. Well, to keep it simple, here are the best mechs in every weight class: You definitely want to get an Atlas II, but you can settle for an Atlas D and still have a walking fortress with enough guns, lasers and missiles on it to kill most mechs under 40 tons reliably in one salvo. the Orion is probably going to be the deadliest mech in the Heavyweight class, but I wouldn't pick it as my only heavy because its fragile. The Thunderbolt is a fantastic mech too, as well as the Warhammer. If you're trying to build just one lance you might want to grab an Archer as your heavy just because its so good at dumping LRMs on everything in the zip code. The lance command mod on either Marauder variant is great, same with the missilery suite on the Archer. The best heavy is probably the Marauder 2R for the 30 extra heat sinking and lostech DHS/energy weapons. If there's a theme here it is that autocannons are great. Plus, you can slap a UAC on it for more firepower. The Shadow Hawk lacks in space for weaponry but I still like it for its high melee damage and mobility. The 2-N is hard to get though and pricey, so you could settle for a regular Griffin, Kintaro, even a Shadow Hawk. The Griffin 2-N is probably the ideal option, with SLDF chassis heat sinking, jump jets, an ER PPC and space for more energy weapons or missiles. You could up-gun it too with something from the black market, a UAC, LBX AC, or even a gauss rifle.įor a medium, you will want a 55 tonner to take as much armor and weaponry as possible. ![]() (looking at you, Dekker) Also, the AC-10 is fun. Sure its not going to be fast enough to scout or evade fire but its got good armor so your light pilot might live to the end of a mission. ![]() ![]() My head says Firestarter but my heart says an Urbanmech for a light.
